Veneers Q & A
by Maryam Haeri-Maybodi, DDS

What are veneers?

Veneers are a porcelain or composite material that’s tooth colored and permanently covers the front surface of teeth. Veneers are designed to improve the look of your teeth by hiding worn enamel, repairing the look of uneven tooth alignment or spacing, hide discoloration, and cover chips and cracks in the teeth.

How can a patient choose the right veneers?

Dr. Haeri Maybodi has been helping patients around the world with their dental care needs for over two decades, and she’ll help her Laguna Niguel patients choose the veneers that are the right color and shape to give the mouth a natural and attractive appearance.

What potential benefits do veneers bring?

In addition to improving the aesthetics of the smile, veneers can:

  • Improve the strength of the teeth
  • Protect the surface of damaged teeth
  • Reduce the risk of needing crowns in the future

Also, removal of a veneer from a damaged tooth is a much less difficult and less invasive procedure than removing a crown from a damaged tooth.

What is the veneers process like?

Dr.Haeri Maybodi will start the process by choosing the right color for the veneers, followed by taking an impression of the teeth to create a model of the patient’s mouth. This allows the laboratory to create a custom set of veneers specific for the patient. On the day of the veneer application, Dr. Haeri Maybodi will shape the teeth to allow the veneers to fit and adhere properly. The veneers are then bonded to the teeth either directly in the case of composite veneers or using resin cement in the case of porcelain veneers. Some patients will need to wear temporary veneers between the preparation procedure and the application of the final veneers.

What are “no-prep” veneers?

Traditional veneers are placed on the teeth after removing some of the enamel and tooth structure to create a rough surface for adherence. No-prep veneers are a type of porcelain veneer that’s placed on the enamel without requiring this removal of the tooth structure. They’re considered “no prep” because it doesn’t require the preparation of the tooth or the use of local anesthetic. Learn more by contacting Dr. Haeri Maybodi at Ocean Breeze Dental Spa.
